Nomad Nattie

As a western woman who has integrated into the Bedouin community and now lives in the caves of Petra, I can attest to the warmth and safety of Bedouin hospitality. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with open arms and welcomed into the community with open hearts.

The Bedouin way of life is one of simplicity and authenticity. The community is tightly knit, and everyone looks out for each other. There is no greater pleasure for a Bedouin than to extend their hospitality to a guest, and they do it with a passion that is unmatched.

When you arrive in a Bedouin home, you will be welcomed with tea and dates, a traditional gesture of hospitality that has been passed down through generations. You will be invited to share meals with the community, which are often communal affairs, with everyone sitting together on the floor, sharing food and stories.

Living in the caves of Petra has been an incredible experience for me, and I have embraced the Bedouin way of life. I have learned how to work and travel with the Bedouins in Petra. I have also learned how to tend to the animals and have helped with the daily tasks of the community.

Bedouins experience Petra in a much different way than tourists. Sure, you can visit the Treasury with 1000 other people. But what about going off the beaten path to a hidden waterfall right inside Petra and having tea with the local bedouins and going for a swim? Traveling with locals gives you a unique advantage to see the secret spots!

The Bedouin community is incredibly welcoming, and there is always something to do or learn. Whether it’s joining in a dance or music session, learning the art of cooking traditional meals, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of the desert, there is something for everyone.

Living in the caves of Petra may seem like a daunting prospect, but the hospitality and warmth of the Bedouin community have made it home. The caves themselves are surprisingly comfortable. We even have solar power, a kitchen and a bathroom. At night, the stars shine brightly in the clear desert sky, and the silence is broken only by the occasional bray of a donkey or the sound of a flute in the distance.

Embracing the authentic Bedouin lifestyle is a truly unique experience that should not be missed. The warmth, safety, and hospitality of the Bedouin community are unmatched, and visiting us in the caves of Petra is an adventure that will stay with you for a lifetime. So why not take a chance and immerse yourself in this beautiful culture?

It is an enriching experience that offers a deep connection to the ancient traditions and nomadic way of living in the Arabian desert. The Bedouin people have a unique culture and resilient spirit that has withstood the test of time. To truly embrace Bedouin life means immersing yourself in their customs, values, and lifestyle.

Living as a Bedouin involves adapting to the harsh desert environment and its challenges. Bedouins have mastered the art of survival in the desert, relying on their knowledge of water sources, navigation, and resourceful use of limited supplies

Embracing Bedouin life also means embracing simplicity and minimalism. The nomadic lifestyle requires a focus on essentials, with possessions and material wealth taking a backseat to the value of relationships, nature, and personal well-being. By living as a Bedouin, you can gain a renewed perspective on what truly matters in life and find contentment in the simplest of pleasures.

Bedouin life allows you to connect with the vastness and beauty of the desert. The desert landscape holds a unique allure, with its golden dunes, starry skies, and serene silence. By immersing yourself in this environment, you can develop a profound appreciation for nature’s wonders and the harmony that can be found within it.

Learning about Bedouin life offers an opportunity to experience a nomadic culture deeply rooted in tradition, resilience, and community. It allows you to learn valuable skills, appreciate the beauty of the desert, and discover a more meaningful and simplistic way of living. Whether it’s for a short visit or a longer immersion, embracing Bedouin life can be a transformative experience that broadens your horizons and nurtures your spirit
